I Am The One.

“What? How could this be? I am the chosen one! Not her! I will fix this if it is the last thing I do!” The thought kept running through Sarah’s mind all day after the ceremony. She had worked so hard and been led to believe that she was the chosen one. The legacy of the chosen one had been in Sarah’s family for centuries and she had been groomed for this her whole life. Now here the ceremony was over and her younger sister was chosen.

Sarah stalked across the ceremonial field and the other students just moved out of her way. It wasn’t good to get in her way on any normal day, but today you would likely come off the worse for the wear if you crossed her. Sarah was the toughest and roughest of the students here. She was a master of the arts and unlike other students who excelled in one area of the arts, Sarah excelled at all the arts and was a master at them all and at such a young age.

Sarah had turned thirty just two days before the ceremony. That was the age when you would naturally become the next in line for the ascension to the chosen one, but she had not been ascended she had been passed over and the elders had not given her a warning or reason for this passing over. Anyone looking at Sarah today could see the aggression and anger displayed on her pale angelic features. Her features were not angelic they were pure anger and aggression and her features were contorted and twisted. Usually she was the vision of beauty, but right now she looked purely menacing and not beautiful at all.

Daniel was her best friend, at one time they had been pledged together to be married if she had not made it as a master or the chosen one. Now she would relegated to being either a mercenary or a wife and mother that is the only options that were available to a failed chosen one who was a woman. Everyone knew that Sarah would not go quietly and become a wife and mother. She would rather face death by sword than motherhood and wifedom.

Sarah walked into the barracks where her and her younger sister used to live until this morning and the ceremony. Now her sister would be moved to the hall of the ascended, she would be moved to the mercenary barracks because she was not going to get married she had made that abundantly clear to the elders.

She packed her things and made ready to move, her mood growing even more sullen. A woman her age never lasted long as a mercenary they always found a reason to retire them early and make them trainers or worse they would become the maids and servants of the palace. She was not going to let happen she had worked too long and hard to get this far! They would have to kill her now if they wanted to be anything less!

All she had ever wanted was to be the chosen one. Her sister was the one who wanted children and to be a wife, so why had the elders chosen the one that didn’t want it? It did not make sense and because they were the elders they were not to be questioned, but she would find out why she had been passed over if it was the last thing she did!
